For a slim, sleek and sophisticated physique that is not overly muscular

what to do when your motivation is "sapped"

I mean I have a lot of days where I don't feel like training at all because I had "rough" work day.

I'll admit I'm dealing more with mental than physical fatigue, but the impact on my training is comparable.

Here's why: books like "The Willpower Instinct" have shown that if you used a lot of willpower at work during the day...

... you'll have less available in the evening when it's time to lift.

So that's what can cause your motivation to "sap" - it's simply your work that depleted you of all your willpower.

Now, you got to be careful here.

Because it's easy to start using what I said as an EXCUSE.

"Oh, I had a tough day at job, and Bernard said that depletes your willpower, so my training is going to suck tonight!"

DON'T BE THAT GUY!!!

Because my past 7 years experience lifting weights has SHOWN me you CAN have *great* workouts on "bad" days where you're not motivated.

In fact, more than once I've hit PRs on days where I didn't feel motivated, AT ALL, to go to the gym and lift.

Similarly, I've had days where I felt great, ate well, had plenty of sleep, really looked forward to training...

... and yet the workout turned into a TOTAL FIASCO!

So what's the lesson?

Simple: motivation is overrated.

What's important is to be CONSISTENT.

Because "80% of success is showing up".
(Woody Allen said that).

Here's how you get consistent: determine when you're going to workout, determine what time you're going to workout...

... and when that day and time comes...

... you go to the gym.

And that's regardless of how you feel...

... no BS...

... no excuses.

Just suck it up and do it.

Overtime you'll realize what I've come to realize: that being consistent is far more important than being motivated.
