I have written quite a few articles on Intermittent Fasting over 3+ years.

I've also used it as a fat loss method over 5 years.

I no longer use this way of eating daily.

My belief is that DAILY intermittent fasting it works well for 2 groups.

  1. People under 35.
  2. Those using it for the first time.

The daily 16/8 method is probably the most popular.

It typically involves skipping breakfast daily, eating later in the day and limiting feeding time to 8 hours.

You don't necessarily have to skip breakfast.

The goal is to simply eat in an 8 hour window each day and fast for 16.

This CAN work well for certain people.

For others, some issues can arise from pushing food back later in the day...

The issue is a combo of excessive Cortisol and Adrenaline.

Cortisol isn't necessarily a bad thing... it helps break down body fat.

Adrenaline isn't a bad thing... it helps release fat from fat cells and boosts metabolism.

Here's where it gets tricky.

  • When cortisol is elevated for too long and too often, it can break down muscle and increase body fat.
  • Studies show that fat cells can become resistant to Adrenaline when those fat cells are exposed to Adrenaline too often and for too long.

I actually think Adrenaline Resistance is the BIG key as to why Intermittent Fasting works well for some, but not others.

Adrenaline Resistance would also explain why Intermittent Fasting can become less effective over time.

If Intermittent Fasting doesn't work well for you?

I would recommend only using it 1-2 times per week.

As outlined in Eat Stop Eat.

This way your fat cells won't become Adrenaline Resistant.

^^^ I will most likely do a full blown blog post on this subject, I just wanted to send an email about issues that can arise from eating this way.

Hope this helps.
