My favorite part of switching gyms is seeing what personality types a particular gym will have.

Make no mistake about it...

You can always count on at least a few odd characters in every gym.

One gym I went to has a lot of dudes who carry around the 1 gallon jugs of water.

Typically the guys who carry these around also train with their gym bag next to any equipment they are working on.

I originally thought the water jugs were so these guys wouldn't have to walk to the water fountain and could stay in the free-weight area.

I was wrong.

These guys will do a set and then wander all around the gym for 5-10 minutes.

I actually don't even know where they go for 10 minutes, but the bag is next to a bench or machine so nobody uses it.

We also have a few hooded guys.

There is a hooded dude in my gym who wears massive headphones OVER the hood.

I imagine he is listening to something horrible.

You KNOW there is a 99% chance I'm right!

Even if I'm wrong about the song, this dude drops weights and grunts like crazy.

If you ever see obnoxious grunting or dropping of weight or unnecessary drama, just remember the findings of this study from 4 years ago...

(If I had a gym I'd make a poster out of this with a "please don't drop your weights" and then this headline and image under that.)

Most of the people in this new gym are normal people.

This one is actually pretty good in that way.

One thing I have NOT seen are those Bane masks.

I've actually never seen a woman wear this in my gym.

These are called altitude masks and studies have shown they are NOT effective for simulating altitude training.

They simply make you look like a character from a video game.

FINISH HIM!

Theses masks don't work.

But...

There is a way to breathe that will deliver more oxygen to the muscles and give you greater performance (strength, endurance, fat loss, etc.)

The best way to breathe during exercise is completely counterintuitive.

P.S.

I like to poke fun of odd gym wear.

I also realize that we all have different tastes.

I wear pretty close to what the guy in this picture is wearing.

 

Fitted shorts that end 6 inches above knee, slim-fit crew neck t-shirt, and Nike running shoes.

A lot of guys in the gym probably think this is lame.

It doesn't show off the muscles as much as some of the stuff they wear.

...but to me some of that stuff looks like the WWE.

Different strokes for different folks :)
